Cenote Nicte Ha

Cenote Nicte Ha is a hidden gem that boasts a dazzling underwater world. Situated just one mile from Cenote Dos Ojos, Nicte Ha is lesser-known, thus it provides a more serene experience.

Cenote Nicte Ha derives its name from the Mayan language. “Nicte” refers to a beautiful and fragrant flower, while “Ha” translates to water. Thus, the name Nicte Ha means “Flower Water” in English. This poetic moniker accurately captures the essence of this cenote, which is adorned with beautiful water lilies and other aquatic flora.

Cenote Nicte Ha is classified as an “open cenote” due to its direct exposure to sunlight. Open cenotes are characterized by their relatively wide openings, allowing sunlight to penetrate and foster the growth of rich aquatic vegetation. Consequently, the cenote’s crystal-clear water is filled with vibrant shades of turquoise and blue, which create a mesmerizing effect when the sun’s rays shimmer through the surface.

Diving and Snorkeling

Cenote Nicte Ha’s maximum depth measures around 32 feet (10 meters), making it an ideal spot for snorkeling and freediving enthusiasts. The shallow areas provide the perfect opportunity to observe the abundant flora and fauna, such as colorful fish, turtles, and a variety of plant life, including the enchanting water lilies for which the cenote is named.

For those who prefer scuba diving, the cenote offers a series of underwater caverns and tunnels that can be explored with the help of an experienced guide. These hidden passages, which were once sacred to the ancient Maya, are adorned with awe-inspiring stalactite and stalagmite formations, offering a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
